The inner-ring suburbs of North St. Louis County deserve a little attention. First up, the Ferguson Planning and Development department is buying up small, foreclosed homes for future use. This has long been a “if I had development money” dream of mine because as life gets too expensive to live it out on the fringes, people will start to migrate backwards over the former White Flight paths. This will make inner-ring suburbs desirable locations yet again.

NOCO StL is a relatively new venture, and nicely done, especially this poignant reporting on the closing of a Jennings institution.
Thanks for the plug, Toby! I’m glad to see the piece in the Beacon about Ferguson’s FNIP program. I know the director, Rosalind Williams, and she is working very hard to make lemonade out of the many 600-square-foot “lemons” we have in Ferguson.
My “if I had the money” dream is to buy up some of those houses and convert them to artist studios. There’s a whole bank of little places along S. Harvey that are too tiny for most people but just right for a small workspace.
Thanks for the love, Toby. Today I took some time to drive the Robinwood subdivision in Florissant looking for midcentury modern beauts. Was sorry to see so many with vinyl siding covering the vertical paneling, and in some cases even covering the small high windows on this style of house too!
It all made me want to find out if it is possible to find homebuilders’ catalogues from the period that showed original exterior designs. Any ideas? I already checked with the historical society in Florissant, but maybe there’s another source?
